The eligibility criteria for NEXUSS studentships reflect the RCUK terms and conditions of training grants
In most cases, UK nationals who have been resident in the UK for the last three years are eligible for a full studentship (tuition fees, stipend, and research training support grant).
EU nationals who have been resident in the UK for the three years prior to the start of the studentship are eligible for a full studentship (tuition fees, stipend, and research training support grant).
EU nationals who have been resident in an EU country other than the UK for the three years prior to the start of the studentship are eligible for a 'fees only' studentship (tuition fees and research training support grant, but not a stipend). EU nationals who are currently working in the UK may not need to have been resident here for three years to qualify for a full studentship, if they meet the criteria for "EU migrant worker" status.
Please note however, that individual institutions may elect to provide stipends from their own funds.
International students (non-EU nationals)
In most cases, non-EU nationals are not eligible for a studentship from NEXUSS.
There are a few exceptions, including non-EU nationals who have indefinite leave to remain in the UK, and have been resident in the UK for at least three years, and not just for full-time education, and those resident in the UK who have confirmed refugee status.
Most supervisors are happy to discuss and support applications for funding from alternative sources, so if you see a project for which you think you are well qualified, you should contact the supervisor.
If unsure of your eligibility for a studentship, please contact the university of registration for the project you wish to apply for, or for general enquiries, contact the CDT at email@example.com
